I saw something in Castiel's memories. One of the elements of Metatron's spell was the murder of a Nephil.
["Murder" is a very specific word to use, and she does so intentionally. Taking an angel's Grace, cutting off a cupid's bow, killing Nephilim- it's about carving away at things precious to Heaven. The Nephilim may have been the products of disobedience and sin, but they were still Heaven's. If the powers in charge truly prioritized them as threats and monsters, wanted to hunt them down, they could have easily done so when the odd "abomination" popped up through the centuries.]
[Gabriel goes perceptively rigid, but he tries to brush it off.] Please. I killed them all. Dad's orders- back in the dark ages. The... literally dark ages. Not my finest hour.
[He turns away from her, so she doesn't see the look of panic that crosses his face.]
[He tosses a derisive comment over his shoulder:] So what, you stopped caring?
[He supposes he's not surprised. Daddy had issues with his monsters. He locked the Leviathan away, barred all the doors in Hell, and ordered the death of any children fathered by wayward angels, but when he vanished, those rules were the first to go. No one cared so much about monsters when everything always came back down to humans.]
And she got scared and fought. [And of course Castiel killed her. He could be angry about that, but he always told her to watch out for other angels. Putting her in the path of one would have just sealed her fate. It's Metatron who killed her. It's Metatron who did everything.]

What now?

They were harmless in small numbers. We had our mission, and they had their lives.
[She now chances a step closer.]
In the end Metatron found her. He introduced her to Castiel.
[He can probably fill in the blanks there.]
