Castiel. Come here. Stand in front of me. Right here. [He points to a spot about four inches from where he's presenting standing.]

[Castiel gives him the most suspicious of suspicious looks at that order, but slooooowly he does as he's told and steps in front of Gabriel.]

[And then Gabriel punches him in the stomach.

...Not that hard, but it's still the equivalent of being punched in the stomach by a very angry trucker. But at least no one's spleen is being ruptured.] That? That is what we call a bad life choice. What if Rei didn't have a big mouth and spill? Then one of us would probably be dead down there and you'd be whining about it for a month.

[He was, honestly, expecting that. And at least Gabriel didn't hit that hard, though it still knocks the wind out of his vessel and he staggers a moment before settling down on his knees and wincing, holding his abdomen. Geez. Unnecessary.]

I wasn't going to let anything happen to any of you.

[He wheezes it, but keeps talking.]

With this knowledge available, what happens the next time someone makes Lucifer angry enough to try to kill them? What happens if Raphael loses her temper? What if there's a confrontation with someone like Tom, and Lucifer overestimates his power in comparison?

[He doesn't want anyone dying in the tunnels, especially not for something stupid.]

So you kept it from us so no one agrees to go on a field trip down there with some jackass with a vendetta? Gee, Castiel, how about maybe... telling us not to get into the candy van with strangers. It was gonna get out, eventually. Nothing stays secret around here.

[He kneels down so he's high level with Castiel.] And if we didn't know? Then some jackass would've figured it out and then we'd be massively boned. I think you oughta know by now that keeping secrets gets you in trouble.

So that no one chooses to go because of the properties of the tunnels.

[He doesn't think any of his siblings would agree to go fight with someone in the tunnels, really.]

I was trying to protect all of us.

[It's quiet, but honest; he wants Gabriel to understand, at least. All he could think about was Lucifer turning on them when he'd found out about the holy fire and how quickly things had gone from fine to Lucifer trying to tear out Gabriel's grace, and should the tunnels have been available then as a permanent way to kill someone?

He also knows the two times Raphael had attacked him she had meant to kill him. If she had known about the tunnels then, she would've dragged him into them and done the job there. And would Lucifer and Raphael have challenged Tom in the tunnels instead, where one or both might've ended up dead permanently?

Things can go wrong so quickly that he didn't want this to be out there as an option, ever.]

Revealing all of them is just as dangerous.

[Gabriel can kinda see the logic, which... Is why he goes silent for a few minutes and screws up his face in concentration, like he's trying really freakin' hard to argue this point, but logic has always been his mortal enemy.]

Okay, but good intentions are gonna be your downfall, bro. Other people kinda have this bad habit of poking holes in 'em. Like Rei. [He straightens up.]

[Castiel also gets to his feet, wincing slightly and trying to decide if he wants to waste energy healing the minor damage from the punch or not.]

But I thought it was the best course of action. I'm not going to do otherwise in the future simply because someone might undermine it.
