[Oh God. Gabriel pinches the bridge of his nose.] You think I know? I like 'em both too, but the only way they're gonna get along is if Lucifer keeps his hands to himself and Rei keeps her sanctimonious BS to herself, and neither of 'em can do that. There's no mystical fix-all to awkward social situations, bro. Sometimes you just gotta deal.

[On one hand, that doesn't help. On the other at least it is Castiel failing; this is just that annoying of a situation.]

Rei is trying, but I've asked Lucifer many times not to force an in-person meeting between the two of them, and he refuses to abide by it. And it seems he truly attempted to start a fight with her a few weeks ago, before he spoke with the Animus.

[Gabriel you understand their brother better, help.]

It's because you like her, Castiel. Any person any of us like are doomed to get scrutinized by Lucifer- it's how he is, because he's a needy little bitch. That's all there is to it.

[Well, okay. He understands that part, and yes, their brother is a needy little bitch. But still.]

I have other friends he does not bother. And he knows this is something that causes issue time and again.

[It's more that he refuses to respect Castiel's wishes than that he and Rei catfight. Castiel's more than a little frustrated, and his feelings might be slightly hurt.]

And those other people? Weren't on Lucifer's radar before you and me even got here. He thinks he's got a right to annoying the girl. You just need to give him someone else to focus on and he'll leave Rei alone.

...Maybe.

I have been trying. But it isn't just Lucifer; though Rei is being less difficult now, she still engages in conflict with him instead of allowing me to deal with it.

[And a pause, as he is reminded of what she'd said this time.]

Did Lucifer tell you how he managed to heal himself, before?

Before what? You mean... After he went nuts? [Yeah, there's nothing to be said about Rei. She's her own woman, Castiel. If you wanted a wife, you shouldn't have picked such a free-thinker.]

[He likes independent humans okay.]

Yes. After he was injured by the Animus.

In that case, he didn't say much of anything to me that made sense.

He didn't tell me at the time, but he did afterward.

[And something that's almost fidgeting for Castiel; he shifts slightly on his feet and looks away, then back.]

He used souls.

[Gabriel has the focused look of someone who is trying very hard not to explode.

It's only working a little.]

Is everyone in this family on drugs but me?

I presume you don't mean literally.

[And yes, that's the reaction he was expecting. But there's more.]

One of them was a shinigami.

....They actually have souls?

They are nothing but souls. Their physical forms are a projection made more real here, from what I understand of them.

[But you're missing the point, bro.]

I thought gods were a little beneath his dignity. [What? He's painting himself a picture.]

They're far closer to Reapers than to gods.

[He crosses his arms loosely, a sure sign he's agitated, but not incredibly so just yet.]

The last thing that any of us need is a conflict with the shinigami. Lucifer has said he will not use souls again, but...

[Castiel knows how easy that is to say. Just that Lucifer's been doing so makes him remember how little effort it takes, and how much power it grants, and what that could be used for.]

Unohana's not gonna start a fight with us- she likes us. And doesn't she kinda have pull there? [Okay, so he's worried- very worried. But NOTHING WRONG WITH SOME OPTIMISM.]

She likes you.

[Castiel has little opinion of Unohana either way at the moment, as he doesn't actively dislike her anymore after he apology, but that's about it.]

I don't know how much sway she has over them. As I understand most of them are the same rank.

Ukitake seems the most levelheaded of them all other than Unohana, however.

[They could talk to him if necessary, if problems arise.]

I speak to her naughty side. She's a minx, what can I say? [He rolls his eyes.] Okay, look. I'll talk to her- you'll talk to him, and maybe we'll cover our bases. Assuming Lucifer even does it again.

[Have an eye roll from him as well for that first comment.]

I'll speak with Rei about it. I don't know Ukitake well, but she may have already contacted him.

Good. See? This is what good communication skills does for a bad situation. Everyone's happy.

[Just putting that out there.]

Well, you're not a very happy person, bro. [He gives him a condescending shoulder pat.]

I rarely have to reason to be.

[But it's just a muttered protest. Gabriel's right after all, regardless of the reason.]
