[Castiel doesn't terribly dislike Nat, honestly, but he is an idiot.]

Oh, that guy. [God, if you'd called him Nat, MAYBE he would have remembered... No, he wouldn't.]

Still don't approve. Let's crash the wedding.

[Castiel still doesn't know his real name okay and he also doesn't care. But he gives Gabriel a look.]

That isn't the course of action I had in mind.

[Rei would be sad.]

If you give her away at her wedding, I'll disown you.

...I don't know what that means.

[Moving on.]

As this all should wear off in a week, I am not certain if anything needs to be done or not, but I am considering attempting to simply avoid all of it. But I feel that will also upset Rei.

[He doesn't know what to do this is all so distressing.]

...Are you asking me for advice on how to comment on this? How low have you sunk when I'm your best hope at making social situations go smoothly?

[He just gives Gabriel a look for the first part--really, who else is he going to ask?--but then nods.]

Yes. Chess. Rei is off living with John, and I have no one to play with.

[Headtilt.]

I have never played it.

It's like Chess, but with fake warships. Much more interesting. [Look, chess is lame, bro. You need to learn... Awesome games.] And it's high time I gave you a lesson in being a little less lame.

[Well, he's down for that.]

[Battleship, not the 'less lame' part. He doesn't care about that part, whatever.]

Prepare to be schooled. Come by the theme park.

[Pause.]

[And here, have your brother about thirty seconds later.]

[Sure enough, there is definitely a rattlesnake on the couch. And Gabriel is already meticulously setting up his Battleships.] This is the worst event. Period. It's like going to your high school reunion after you dropped out and refused to get your GED.

[Castiel spares the rattlesnake a curious look but leaves it alone, moving over to sit down on the opposite side of the board even though he has no idea how to play.]

I don't understand any of the latter portion what you just said. Though I agree that this event is particularly annoying.

[Not the worst, by far--to him that goes to the asylum event and probably always will--but definitely irritating.]

[Moving on...] Okay, bro. Think of this game as like a really advanced form of chess. The first thing you gotta do is line up your little ships however you want them on that bottom grid. Once they're in place, the game begins.

[He listens carefully, picking up his little ships and beginning to carefully place them on the board. Once he's done, he seems to wait for something to happen, before finally looking at Gabriel.]

Is something supposed to occur?

Wait for it. [And... Gabriel explains the rest of the rules of the game, because I'm really freakin' lazy and HEY, HE ACTUALLY ISN'T THAT BAD AT EXPLAINING. Mostly. Yeah, anyway. Magical thread timeskip time.] G4. [A beat.] Y'know, I think Rei might be one of the few people barely affected by all this crap.

Miss.

[Castiel has strategically laid his ships out in a pattern meant to be obscure; meanwhile he's mentally calculated the most likely spots to strike back.]

[And a somewhat surprised and baffled look for that comment.]

She believes it's been ten years, Gabriel.

[That's not barely affected okay.]

[And this is the point where Gabriel, who has more sunk ships than floating ones REALLY REGRETS teaching Castiel a strategy game.

Still cooler than chess. He raises an eyebrow at his brother.] I'm talking about how she hasn't changed a bit, Castiel. [A beat.] Also miss. A3.

[Poor Gabriel. This is what you get for having a nerd for a little brother.]

She does seem to be very similar. But I would not have expected her personality to change greatly.

Hit. [Grumble mutter.] Yeah, but pretty much everyone else got the rough trade version of ten years. Good one, Animus.

[Castiel looks vaguely pleased for a moment, until Gabriel finally stumbles upon one of his ships as well.]
