Not that Sam. [He'll see your eyeroll with one of his own.] Once they're hooked on one thing or another they're boring. I've got nothing to talk to poor little Sammy Winchester about.

You've been chattin' with Merlotte? The rough trade AGI bait that Pal Joey and his little pep squad work for? Since when?

A few weeks. [He bumps his head against Gabriel's, accidentally of course but it makes him seem oddly animalistic.] I like him, he's like--a smarter Dean. And he's why I'm drinking tonight. Who's Pal Joey?

[Gabriel edges away slightly, but is altogether grateful for the contact- more of it, anyway. Who knows when they might be like this again?] Remind me to send him a fruit basket. [He scoffs at the question.] Joe Fieldman. Little silver-haired punk. Sticks his nose in everything.

[Lucifer laughs a little.] You should. He's been teaching things. Useful things.

[He tries to place a face to the name but can't.] Tell 'im to keep his nose away from me.

Like... What? [A beat] So I know what to write on the card.

[Another eyeroll.] Can do.

Like...cooking. And how to go into a burning building. [A lengthy pause.] And other things but you'd just...be ridiculous about.

[uberboned]

In my defense, Lucy, there's nothing not ridiculous about getting into a burning building. Can't be blamed for that one.

[thelightbringer]

It wasn't holy fire, and he would've burned his paws off. [Yup. That is his haughty excuse for following Sam Merlotte on a rescue mission.]

I'm sure that sentence was supposed to make sense, but you're drunk, so who knows?

You've never seen him get naked? And turn into something? [And he thought you'd be a better busybody, for shame.]

Oh. That. [A beat.] ...Nope.

Gabriel. Why do you like naked human bodies? What is it that appeals to you? I thought maybe you just liked gods--maybe you didn't care how filthy they are--but now you live with one. And I can safely say she's been naked with you.

[Which is disgusting. Less disgusting than Kali, but only barely.]

You want me to explain why I'm a breast and leg angel? Something tells me that's not a book you wanna open, Lucy.

I don't understand it. I've tried. I did a lot of things to Lilith.... Is it because you have a body? [GENUINE CURIOSITY. The intense scrutiny only the drunk can manage.] I tried that, too.

[headshake] I don't get it. Help me understand it. How can you prefer plain little mortal sex to what you could do without your vessel? Have you tried it?

Yeah, and... There's something unbearably lonely about living in a wasteland of eyeless corpses. [A sigh] I like people, Lucifer. Can't explain why- they're fuck-ups at best and Daddy knows I off a ton of 'em... But I like 'em. It's not even just about sex. It's about the passion.

[thelightbringer]

We have passion. [Or at least Lucifer does--too much of it, in fact, it's what makes him so volatile, so peculiar and dangerous.]

Not like them. We're all passion with no focus, because we were meant to have it just for Dad and each other... Then we got split up, and now... What are you passionate about, Lucifer? The family? Killing humanity one by one? Making Daddy suffer? What? [He snorts.] You were always the brightest.

[thelightbringer]

[He gives Gabriel an honestly wounded look. What is he passionate about? Gabriel has to ask?]

Home. Just like them. I just want...home.

And I want to learn everything God wouldn't tell us. I want life, Gabriel.

[uberboned]

[Gabriel fixes his brother with a heartbroken look.] Then take it, Lucifer. That's all you have to do. Dad doesn't matter here- His reach... If He's even reaching... It ain't here. This could be home. It's not as good as what Heaven was, but we're never getting that back again.

[thelightbringer]

I want to. I'm trying to, Gabriel. [Lucifer doesn't sound at all helpless, just...a little lost. Bewildered.]

I just want Michael. Everything I've done here, it's for him, I learned human things to keep me from killing people, we got jobs. Do you--do you think it'll work? Do you think he wants to leave with me?

I hope he does. [Because he knows it's the only way Lucifer will ever be happy. In a sick, barely recognized part of himself, he almost feels happy that he has something that Lucifer can play second fiddle to. It was always Michael and Lucifer. Raphael clung to Michael and Gabriel clung to Lucifer, but at the end of the day, though they were always four, it came down to two and two spares.

And now Gabriel had Jinx. If Lucifer could have Michael, then there was hope for them both, even if Lucifer did find a way to get out. They'd part on better terms than they did before.]

[Lucifer nods. They can't go back. That hurts, it will always hurt, because even drunk he knows when he leaves he will never see Gabriel again. The sudden pain that causes leads him to reach out, hand on Gabriel's cheek. Just for a second, and then he pulls away.]

What's the wildest thing you've done here?

[Good question. He'd played it cool for the most part- even his tricks were more subdued. He wasn't sure why, beyond the fact that he couldn't rightly do too much in a town that he couldn't leave.] Well. There was this one really skeevy gynecologicist and something that kinda rhymes with 'hakuna matata.' That was a bundle o' laughs.

'Hakuna matata'? [He looks as confused as the wee cub Simba. What the hell are you talking about, Gabriel.]
