Gabriel is definitely allowed to reference Horst's past. He's a vampire, but he's different from other vampires in that he's much, much harder to kill, and much much faster. He's able to control minds, but I doubt it would work on Gabriel. His soul is also deteriorating, but there's a plot coming up to fix that.
So...history for Horst: His sister-in-law (whom he was sort of in love with, ish) drowned and Horst feels responsible for it. His little brother (Johannes, a necromancer) locked Horst in a tomb with a vampire, hence Horst's condition. They've started to make amends but it's made Horst unwilling to really trust anyone. He helped his brother gather up souls to send to Satan, and Horst feels extremely guilty for it, although he will never talk about it or what happened that led him to help Johannes.
No sex, but Horst will flirt just to get under someone's skin.
