You shouldn't have died at all!

But I did and I'm okay with it. It was better than watching you and Michael and the rest of the family kill each other. [This conversation sure went south. He'd rather talk about Sam naked.]

[thelightbringer]

I was never going to kill Michael, Gabriel. [He sounds desperate, pleading.] Look at us now! I go home and he plays games. We have pets!

This was what I wanted. Don't you understand?

[uberboned]

It's what I wanted too. It's not what we would've gotten. 'Cause we don't get what we want. 'Cause if you and Michael played nice, there would be six other angels thinking Michael went soft and there'd be a coup and then it'd be a new war. That's how it goes. And you ask me why I wanna stay here. [He sighs] I want you to be happy.

[thelightbringer]

I want all of us to be happy. [He sounds thoroughly miserable saying it, because Gabriel is right.]

When did we become damned? I thought it was just me, but God did a number on all of you, didn't He?

[uberboned]

I figure it was around the same time Dad decided to piss in your cornflakes and broke the entire status quo. One Falls, we all suffer. Not a whole lot of us can deal with that. [Gabriel's one of them, but he still thinks he dealt with it better than most.]

[thelightbringer]

[And then a tiny miracle]

I'm sorry He hurt you because of me. I was trying to protect us and--whatever sides were chosen, none of you deserved what happened.

[uberboned]

[HALLELUJAH. HALLELUJAH.]

Yeah. [And Gabriel's heart grew three sizes that day and hope sprang eternal.] 'Course that's the thing about wars... They're inevitable and everyone's lives always suck after. In the end... It don't matter who fired the first shot.

Did you ever blame me?

I thought you went about it the wrong way, but blame you? No. You had a good idea, but crappy execution.

[thelightbringer]

Well give me a break, I was young. Naive. sober.

[uberboned]

Don't beat yourself up over it- it was bound to happen. If not you, then someone else. Dad and his little inevitabilities.

[thelightbringer]

Maybe Castiel...but he wouldn't have turned out this way if I hadn't--

[he hates thinking that this was preordained. That his biggest, most difficult decision was no decision at all.]

Can we go somewhere?

[uberboned]

Like that beach you like? [He's more than willing to get somewhere away from the street and prying eyes and he's actually getting tired hauling Lucifer's drunk ass around.]

[thelightbringer]

[He smiles blissfully.] How'd you know?

[uberboned]

I pay attention. [He focuses on flying out to the area, hauling Lucifer with him, because he doesn't trust that Lucifer'll end up in the right place in his condition. Once there, he deposits Lucifer on the ground and flops down beside him.] You should get a little condo or something- stick it right over there.

[thelightbringer]

[He laughs, lying beside Gabriel, delighted to be back near the ocean.]

We should. Maybe when we make peace with the little siblings we'll have them over.

Do you ever see them?

[uberboned]

[Gabriel stares out at the ocean. You'd almost think there wasn't some creepy force out there that would kill you if you tried to fly out across it.] Castiel and Anna? Every now and then. Anna's got a beau- well, she ought to have a beau if she knows what's good for her ginger ass. And Castiel's still glued to the Winchesters.

[thelightbringer]

I haven't seen Castiel in a while. When I met him at home after the war, I couldn't even recognize him....

What are they like?

[uberboned]

Different. But who isn't? [That's the easiest way he can explain it to... Drunkifer.]

[thelightbringer]

Castiel got stronger.

[He'd seen the younger angel a handful of times in Heaven, then poof, the next he saw him was in a dirty raincoat. But he'd been a soldier by then, one of Michael's without a doubt: almost emotionless.]

I wish he was more like you. Or me. He's kinda like me already, you know?
